“It’s been done. I’ve spoken to him and he’s staying. I’m delighted. He knew he’d made a mistake. He now realises that if he plays 25 or 30 games next season, they’ll be of real quality. We know our player very well. We’ve had him since he was a kid and we know how to use him.”
- Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Paul Scholes will stay at Manchester United for the 2012/2013 season

“We’re not like other clubs who can spend fortunes. We invest in players who’ll be with the club for a long time, who’ll create the character of the club, who’ll create excitement for our fans. And we have many players like that. We’re good at that and we’re going to continue that way.”
“We have set our stall out for certain players. We want to make sure the evolution of United continues because I’ve been at the club for 25 years and I have to maintain a certain standard that keeps us there all the time.”

Ryan Giggs has been named Best Player in the Premier League’s 20 Seasons Awards.
“The Premier League is bigger and better now than it was 20 years ago, there’s no doubt about it. The players and facilities are better and it’s just a joy to have been a part of it from the start and see what it is now.”
He also picked up a special achievement prize for the number of appearances he has made, having played in 598 Premier League matches for Manchester United.

“I think we can take great credit. We’ve had to contend with a lot of injuries this season so I’ve had to change the team around a lot. That didn’t always help us. I have absolutely no recriminations about our season at all. Yes, there were times we can look back and say we’ve done this wrong or we’ve done that wrong, but 89 points would have won the league in most seasons. At the start of the season I said 82 points would probably win it. And we’ve gone seven points ahead of that. It doesn’t matter, though. We’ve lost the league. There’s nothing we can do about it. We congratulate Manchester City. Anyone who wins the league deserves to win it because it’s a very difficult league to win.”
